Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus)

Red-Shouldered Hawk feasting on a pigeon.

I’ve had quite a few raptor sightings in my backyard this winter, and here is one of them! The Red-shouldered Hawk is typically found in the Eastern United States and on the West Coast (California), however, this fella is in Kingman, AZ! They have been known to wander to nearby states, including Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, and Washington (California Red-Shouldered Hawks). This is the second year this guy has returned; the only difference being his adult plumage this year!
